My Background
My name is Sandra and I came into the counselling world after working with children with special needs for many years. My job involved working with children with autism, aspergers syndrome and cerebral palsy and alongside their families and other professionals. This was a demanding but very rewarding role, it gave me a wealth of experience in dealing with individuals who were often frustrated, angry, confused or unable to communicate their emotions. This role gave me the opportunity to enhance my own communication skills, requiring patience, understanding, and encouragement. Working in this field made me realise the lask of support there often is for parents.
I decided to study psychology and then went onto study counselling. Whilst I was studying I had a counselling placement at a local hospice, where I worked extensively with bereavement and loss, anticipatory grief, life-limiting illness, working with both cancer patients and their families. After qualifying I have continued to counsel at the hospice voluntarily. I now also work in private practice in Cheadle Hulme, working with a variety of clients from different backgrounds, this has given me extensive experience of working with depression, all forms of abuse, self-esteem and confidence issues, stress & anxiety, relationship and family related issues to name but a few.
I offer clients one to one counselling in a comfortable, safe and confidential environment. I also offer counselling to couples who may be having difficulties with their relationship or family life. Supporting clients through their issues by using a varienty of techniques, suitable for the individual, as we are all unique. I am particularly drawn to how our childhood experiences impact on the adult we are today.
My Qualifications
